Next Year's Data – Future Assignments, Incoming Views & Rollover
Next Year's Data lets SIRAS store information that should take effect in a future school year or at a planned transition without changing the student's Current data today.
For students who are already on an IEP, Next Year's Data supports future district and school assignments, future providers, future services, Incoming views, and annual rollover processing.
For students who are still on an IFSP and under age 3, Next Year's District has a different and very specific purpose. It gives the future IEP district early access to the same student record so the Part C-to-B Initial IEP transition can be completed before age 3. It does not transfer the record to the IEP district. See Section 3.

1. How Current Data & Next Year's Data Work Together
Next Year's Data is a future-state overlay. For students already on an IEP, it allows staff to prepare selected future information while the student's Current record continues to represent what applies now.

The normal future district/school/provider/service rollover model described in this article applies to students who are already on an IEP. For an IFSP student under age 3, Next Year's District is used to support shared access for the Part C-to-B transition. It does not transfer the Current record to the IEP district. See Section 3.
When an eligible record is rolled over, SIRAS evaluates the student's grade and advances it according to the grade-advance rules. For example, Retain Grade can keep the grade from advancing even though the record itself rolls over and eligible Next Year's Data is applied. It stores future values alongside the student's existing record so staff can plan for a known upcoming change without replacing the information that is still correct today.
2. What Belongs in Next Year's Data for Students Already on an IEP?
For students who are already on an IEP, use Next Year's Data when information is expected to change in the next school year or at a planned IEP transition.
Common IEP Uses
- Future district: the student is expected to attend a different district next year.
- Future school: the student is expected to move to a different school, including feeder-school or matriculation changes.
- Future providers: provider assignments or the future caseload will change.
- Future services / IEP plan data: services or plan information will change when the new school year begins.
- Kindergarten / program-setting transitions: future program-setting information can be prepared ahead of the transition. See Program Setting Updates.
- Enrollment and staffing projections: future assignments can be used by receiving administrators to anticipate students, staffing, classrooms, and caseloads.
Where to enter it
Navigate to Student Info → Next Year's Data. When the student does not yet have Next Year's Data, use Create Next Year's Data.
For individual future fields such as District and School, enter a future value when a change is expected. Provider and service lists behave differently and are explained in the next section.
3. Special IFSP → IEP Use of Next Year's District
For a student who is still on an IFSP and under age 3, Next Year's District has a special purpose. It is not being used as an ordinary annual rollover assignment.
Because the Current record must remain with the IFSP district until the student is minimally age 3, the future IEP district needs another way to access the record before the transition is complete.
Entering the future IEP district as Next Year's District allows SIRAS to:
- give both the IFSP district and future IEP district access to the same student record during the transition period, and
- attribute the finalized Initial IEP meeting transaction on the MIS page to the IEP district, even though the Current record is still held by the IFSP district.
The Current record remains with the IFSP district until the student turns 3 and the IFSP district is finished with the record. The IFSP district can then manually roll the record forward, which transfers the Current record to the IEP district.

4. Future Provider & Service Lists Must Represent the Intended Future State
For students already on an IEP, provider and service information requires special attention because future lists can represent the complete intended list after rollover, not merely the individual items that are changing.
Next Year's Providers
If Next Year's provider assignments are entered, review the entire future provider list. Providers that should continue into the new year must remain represented in the intended future assignment along with new or changed providers.
Next Year's Services / IEP Plan Data
If Next Year's services are entered, review the complete set of services that should be in effect after rollover. Do not leave a partial future service list when other existing services are expected to continue.
When using future provider or service lists, review the whole intended future state rather than thinking of the list as only a list of changes.
Next-school-year IEP plan information is generally prepared near the end of the current school year for changes that will take effect in the fall. It is not intended as a substitute for correcting Current data that is already supposed to be in effect.
5. Incoming & Future-Scope Views – Who Can See What?
For an IFSP student under age 3, Next Year's District can give the future IEP district shared access to the same record before the Current record transfers. That special access continues until the student is age 3 and the IFSP district manually rolls the record to the IEP district. See Section 3.
For students already on an IEP, Next Year's Data can change who will have access to a record in the future. SIRAS provides future-scope views so staff can preview those expected assignments before rollover.

Open a future-scope view
- Open the Scope / Change Scope dialog using the schoolhouse control.
- Select the applicable future view. The exact option varies by role and may include Incoming Students, Next Year's Students, or Next Year Preview.
- Click Go.
- Review the expected students in the Choose Student list.
Providers – Next Year's Students
Administrators – Next Year Preview
Administrators can use future-scope views to review expected incoming students plus continuing students for enrollment, eligibility, staffing, and classroom projections.
Before rollover, Incoming is a preview of expected future access. After rollover, a record that is still Incoming is an exception: its future assignment has not been applied and it has not entered the receiving user's normal scope. See After Rollover – Record Processing & Cleanup.
6. When Is Next Year's Data Applied?
For eligible students already on an IEP, Next Year's Data is normally applied during the annual rollover. Once applied, the future values become Current data.
Automatic rollover generally expects the record to be Active. Next Year's Data may remain unapplied when conditions require the record to stay in its existing state.
Common conditions that can prevent automatic application
- The student's status is Pending or Inactive.
- There is an open meeting dated in the past.
- The Next Year's District is different and there is an open meeting that prevents the transfer from being applied automatically.
Next Year's District gives the future IEP district access during the transition, but the Current record stays with the IFSP district. After the student turns 3 and the IFSP district is finished, the IFSP district manually rolls the record forward to transfer it to the IEP district. See Section 3.

Staff who still control the record can resolve the issue and, when appropriate, use Advance and Apply Next Year's Data to manually process the record. See After Rollover – Record Processing & Cleanup.
Manual rollover is not the same as Request Transfer
When an expected beginning-of-year district or school transfer did not occur because Next Year's Data was not applied, the sending side should resolve the issue and manually process the Next Year's Data when appropriate.
Request Transfer is a separate workflow intended for a student who moves districts during the school year. Applying Next Year's Data is the rollover workflow for a future assignment that was already planned before the new school year.
Retain Grade is separate from rollover
Retain Grade affects whether the student's grade advances during rollover. It does not by itself mean that Next Year's Data was not applied or that the record failed to roll over. The complete grade-advance rules are maintained in Before Rollover – Preparation & Exceptions.
7. Confirm Next Year's Data When Finalizing a Meeting
When a meeting is finalized in the IEP Manager, SIRAS may identify Next Year's Data that should be reviewed before the meeting is closed.
- Review Next Year's Data when parent consent was not provided for all proposed services so future information does not incorrectly include unapproved changes.
- Update Next Year's Data when amendments changed services, placement, or other information that should take effect in the future.
- If a meeting remained open during the rollover period, SIRAS may prompt staff to apply Next Year's Data when the meeting is finalized.
Meeting data represents the proposed plan being developed. Current data represents what is presently in effect. Next Year's Data represents approved or expected information that should take effect in a future year or transition. Review each state carefully when a meeting crosses the rollover period.
IFSP → IEP Initial Meeting
For an IFSP student approaching age 3, Next Year's District helps SIRAS provide the future IEP district with access and correctly attribute the Initial IEP meeting transaction while the Current record remains with the IFSP district.

8. Review Next Year's Data in Lists & Projections
View future information as a list
- Go to Reporting → Student Lists → Predefined Lists → Data Monitoring.
- Select Next Year's Data or Next Year's Services.
- Review the future information for missing, incomplete, or unexpected values.
Use future views for planning
Administrators can use Incoming and Next Year Preview views to support:
- expected enrollment counts
- eligibility and program projections
- staffing and classroom planning
- future school assignments
- provider caseload planning
It identifies the future IEP district for transition access and meeting attribution; it is not evidence that the Current record has already transferred.
