SIRAS is primarily a student database. Most work is completed either in one selected student record or within a found set of student records.
Need help reaching or signing in to SIRAS? See Logging In to SIRAS.
Use the SIRAS logo, Return To control, menus, Choose Student, Search, and Change Scope. The browser Back button may end or disrupt the SIRAS session.

One Student Record vs. a Found Set
- One selected student: Use Choose Student or Quick Search to open a record by name or ID.
- A found set: Use Search to build a group of records matching selected criteria. Lists and reports may then use that group.
After a search, use Modify to change the criteria or Reset Search to restore the broader record set available to your account.
SIRAS Help in Context
Select the blue question-mark buttons displayed throughout SIRAS to open help related to the page or function where you are working.
SIRAS Home and Return To
- Select the SIRAS logo to return to the Home Page.
- Use the Return To control beside the logo as the SIRAS back-navigation control.
- Do not use the browser Back or Forward buttons for ordinary navigation.
Choose Student
Select Choose Student beneath the SIRAS logo to view the students currently available to your account and open one record.
If you are viewing a found set, select Reset Search to restore the broader student list available within your current scope.
See Choose Student for additional help.
Schoolhouse Icon – Change Scope
Change Scope controls which assigned schools, districts, groups, or individually assigned records are included in your current view.
- Use View Individually Assigned to focus on your caseload.
- Use the school filter to move among a district, school group, or individual school available to your account.
- The available choices depend on your assignments and User Access Roles and Permissions.
See Change View Scope.
Default scope, Choose Student, navigation placement, Home Page, and student-header settings can be customized in User Account - Preferences Help.
Type to Narrow Long Menus
Many SIRAS controls contain more choices than can be scanned quickly. In these look-ahead or type-ahead menus, begin typing part of the field, school, district, or option name. SIRAS narrows the menu to choices related to what you typed.
You will see this pattern in several areas, including:
- Search → Query Builder → Add Criteria;
- field choices used to customize Student Lists;
- Data Export field choices;
- Statistical Report field choices; and
- long school, district, SELPA, or other scope/selection menus where a text filter is provided.
Choose the intended option from the filtered results, then continue with the search, list, report, export, or scope change.
Example of a look-ahead menu: typing grade in Add Criteria narrows the field list to matching choices. Typing another term, such as service, narrows the same menu to service-related fields.
For the full Query Builder procedure, see Search Help.
