1. Start With a Stable Student Group
Use Search Help to find the students you intend to change. The resulting student population is the Found Set.
If the Found Set was created from the same field you are about to change, convert the students to Marked Records first.
Do not run a batch edit while the Found Set depends on the value that will be changed. Mark the intended students, use Find only marked students, then verify the count again. See Finding Students by Marked Records.

Make a note of the Found Set count shown near Choose Student. For more about what the Found Set represents, see Found Set.
2. Use Batch Edit
- Go to Tools → Batch Edit.
- Choose the field next to Replace which field?
- Choose the new value or applicable assignment.
- Recheck the Found Set count and the change you are about to make.
- Select the applicable Batch Replace/Add action.
- Review the confirmation dialog and confirm only when the student count and change are correct.
Batch Edit applies the selected change to the current verified Found Set.
Provider assignments can behave differently from a simple field replacement.
If you need to add another provider without replacing the provider already assigned in the same role, use Show Me: Batch Add a Provider Without Replacing the Existing Provider.

3. Verify the Result
After the update succeeds:
- confirm the success message/count;
- open representative student records;
- verify the intended field or assignment changed;
- verify unrelated data and any existing provider assignment that should remain were not replaced.
Do not stop at the success message.
The observable outcome is the student record itself. Confirm the updated records before moving on.
