MIS Summary Help

The MIS Summary brings the principal student record fields together on one page and serves as the center of the SIRAS student record.

CALPADS note: Current SWDS, MEET, PLAN, and SERV information must be preserved in a dated archived transaction before it becomes stored reporting history.

Contents

1. Relationship Between the MIS Summary and Forms Manager

SIRAS uses a “push and pull” process between the MIS Summary and IEP forms. When an IEP Manager event is opened, applicable Current information populates the forms.

Most form changes remain pending until the event is completed and finalized. Finalization applies the approved information to Current and creates the associated archived transaction.

2. MIS Summary Toolbar

The toolbar provides the actions available for the current student record.

3. Unlocking a Student Record

Most special education changes should be completed through the applicable meeting workflow. Administrator-level users may unlock the MIS Summary when an authorized direct correction is necessary.

Unlocking Current does not automatically correct an older archive.

4. Field Definitions

Many MIS Summary fields include a question-mark icon. Place the pointer over the icon to display the field definition.

5. Archive for Reporting

When reportable information changes outside the normal meeting workflow, Archive for Reporting may become available. Validate the Current information, choose the correct archive type, and review the preview before creating the transaction.

6. CALPADS Warnings, Errors, and Validation

Errors

Errors identify missing or conflicting information that prevents submission. Correct the underlying data or transaction.

Warnings

Warnings identify an anomaly that must be reviewed. A record may sometimes be submitted after a warning is verified.

7. Current and Archived CALPADS Records

The MIS Summary normally displays Current. The Archived Records menu contains dated transactions created when meetings are finalized or staff use Archive for Reporting.

Select a dated transaction to inspect the stored information. Select Go to Current Record to return to the current view.

Each archived transaction may contain SWDS, MEET, PLAN, and/or SERV components.
Use Archived Transactions to open, review, edit, or resend an archive. Use Archived Transaction Components to understand which reporting components the archive contains.

8. Active, Pending, and Inactive Status

  • Active: the current eligible, enrolled, participating record.
  • Pending: a temporary referral/evaluation or follow-up state.
  • Inactive: a record that is not the current participating record or was determined not eligible.

See SIRAS Record Status and When Students Leave, Stop Participating, or Become Inactive.

9. Optional Status Fields

Optional/local fields may include Designation, Placement, and other configured values. Interpret these separately from the Active/Pending/Inactive status and from CALPADS SWDS history.
