Next Years Service Form Issue

The Next Year's Services and Supports form (this form may have name variations based on the SELPA) was originally designed for students transitioning between major school levels—such as Kindergarten to Elementary, Elementary to Middle School, and Middle School to High School.

The Issue:

This form is linked to the system rollover that occurs around July. During the rollover, the next year’s services replace the current year’s services. If no changes were made to services between the student’s Annual or Triennial IEP (when the form was last used) and the rollover, this process works as intended.

However, a problem arises in the following scenario:

  • A student has an Annual or Triennial IEP, during which the Next Year's Services and Supports form is completed.

  • Later, an Addendum or Other Review is held, during which the case manager adds or removes services.

  • At the time of rollover, the system still replaces current-year services with the previously recorded next-year services, effectively wiping out any service changes made during the Addendum or Other Review.

Our Recommendation:

To prevent these issues, we recommend using the Next Year's Services and Supports form only during major school transitions.

Otherwise If any service changes occur after the Next Years Services and Supports form has been completed, those changes must also be updated in the Next Year’s form to avoid data loss.

Previously, when this form was visible for all students, we encountered many corrections at the start of the school year due to this issue. Hiding the form except during transitions has helped mitigate these errors.
