There are three types of Charter School setups in SIRAS.

  1. Non Independently Reporting type 55 Charter  (Operated BY an LEA)
  2. Independently Reporting type 55 Charter  (Operated BY and LEA)
  3. Type 56 Charter as an LEA (Voting member of SELPA)  (Operated AS and LEA)

NOTICE TO ALL CHARTER SCHOOLS:

Be mindful of all student records having the correct 55 or 56 School Type selected. CLICK HERE to learn how to find wrong school type easily.

Please do not choose Public Day School 10, doing so will adversely affect any SELPA level reports being run for Census.

The first type of charter is listed as a school within their sponsoring LEA district.

It is important that all records have School Type listed as:

55 - Charter school (operated by an LEA / district)

The lead SEDS Coordinator should have School SPED clerk user role access.

This type of charter would not report their CALPADS data

This type of charter works with their sponsoring Districts main District SPED clerk to get the charter data reported to CALPADS.

The second type of charter appears as an LEA within SIRAS

It is important that all records have School Type listed as:

55 - Charter school (operated by an LEA / district)

The lead SEDS Coordinator should have District SPED clerk user role access. (Yes event though they are technically only a school)

This type of charter would report their CALPADS data, and this is why their school looks like an LEA district within SIRAS.

This type of charter has filed a request to report their data to CALPADS independently of their sponsoring LEA District.

The third type of charter appears as an LEA within SIRAS

It is important that all records have School Type listed as:

56 - Charter school (operated as an LEA / district)

The lead SEDS Coordinator should have District SPED clerk user role access. (Yes event though they are technically only a school)

This type of charter would report their CALPADS data, and this is why their school looks like an LEA district within SIRAS.

This type of charter has filed a request to report their data to CALPADS independently of their sponsoring LEA District.
