Having Trouble Uploading a File into SIRAS?

If a file will not upload, first check the file size, filename, file location, and file type. Most upload problems can be resolved with the steps below.

Check the File Size

Check the upload dialog for the current maximum file size. If the file is too large, reduce or compress it before uploading.

For PDF files, see Make a PDF File Smaller.

Use a Simple Filename

A standard browser file-upload control sends the selected file and its filename to SIRAS. Simplifying the filename can help rule out problems caused by how a browser, operating system, or server handles the name.

When troubleshooting, rename the file using a short, descriptive name. Remove unnecessary punctuation, repeated periods, slashes, quotation marks, or other unusual characters, and keep the normal file extension at the end.

Examples of simple filenames:

  • Annual Signature.pdf
  • Assessment Report.pdf
  • 2024-08-15 FL Signature.pdf
Protect student information.
Do not include the student’s full name or date of birth in the filename. Use initials or an appropriate student identifier according to district policy.

Save the File Locally

If the file is stored on a shared drive, network location, cloud-synced folder, or removable device, save a copy to a local folder such as Documents or Downloads and try the upload again.

This can help when the browser does not have permission to access the original file location.

Confirm the File Type

Make sure the file type is accepted by the current SIRAS upload dialog. If the document was scanned or exported by another program, open it first to confirm that the file is valid and not damaged.

For a PDF that still will not upload, try opening it and using Save As or Print to PDF to create a new copy.

Try These Steps in Order

  1. Confirm that the file opens correctly on your computer.
  2. Check that the file does not exceed the maximum shown in the upload dialog.
  3. Rename it using a short, simple filename and remove unnecessary punctuation or unusual characters.
  4. Save a copy to a local folder.
  5. Try uploading the local copy.
  6. If the problem continues, create a new copy of the file or reduce its size.
Still unable to upload the file?
Contact SIRAS Support and provide the file type, approximate file size, the upload location in SIRAS, and any error message displayed. Do not email a document containing student information unless you are using an approved secure method.
