Understanding participation status changes

Participation is directly related to the 'Active Status' of SIRAS.

If the participation status changes in the field, we need to change what is in SIRAS to reflect that.

When does participation status need to be updated in CALPADS?

Scenarios where status will be reported automatically

Initial Evaluation Outcomes

  • When a student is found eligible and will start participating with an initial evaluation IEP event in the forms manager of SIRAS. [SWDS, MEET, PLAN & SERV records will be sent to CALPADS automatically after meeting is finalized as parents accept the plan]
  • When a student is found eligible and will not start participating with an initial evaluation IEP event in the forms manager of SIRAS, this will get reported automatically. [SWDS & MEET records will be sent to CALPADS automatically after meeting is finalized as parents accept plan or don't accept plan]
  • When a student is found not eligible and will not start participating with an initial evaluation IEP event in the forms manager of SIRAS, this will get reported automatically. [SWDS & MEET records will be sent to CALPADS automatically after meeting is finalized as parents accept plan or don't accept plan]

Reevaluation Outcomes

  • When a student is found no longer eligible. [SWDS & MEET records will get reported automatically when parents accept the plan.]
  • When a student is found no longer eligible. [By default, only a MEET record will get reported automatically when parents do accept the plan. This is considered a stay put so the eligibility is left in place and student continues participating as if they student was still considered eligible. If staff want to override this function, contact [email protected] ] The previously agreed to plan and services in place prior to the reevaluation stay in place as the current plan and services.

Exit Summary Outcomes

When an exit summary is created in the forms manager, if the resulting inactive reason is reportable, SIRAS will automatically report the updated SWDS indicating the student is no longer participating as of the date of the exit in CALPADS. Ex: HS Completer exits

Scenarios where status does not need to be reported

If a student leaves your district and we can reasonably assume the student will continue participating wherever they end up, this is not a reportable event. We just make the record inactive as moved in SIRAS.

If a student record was created and made pending in anticipation of participating but they did not start participating. We just make the record inactive as no show in SIRAS.
